The Eastern Futurity is one of few -- if not the only -- Futurity held for Springers. It is an old tradition and worthy of note. I am often asked questions about how the futurity is run and I want to "educate" people about the process of Nomination and Enrollment. There are basically three steps to entering puppies in the Futurity at the EESSC specialty show. The first step is to nominate a bitch prior to whelping for $10 (or within 60 days after the puppies are whelped for $15). The nominations for the Futurity run from December 1 to the following November 30 each year. Nomination forms are readily available from the Futurity Chair, our EESSC website, and are often printed in the Newsletter. The second step is to enroll the puppies from the litter that you might want to enter in the Futurity when the puppies are six months of age. The enrollment forms are sent to the breeder approximately at the litter's six-month birthday and the breeder has one month to return the forms to the Futurity Chair (these forms can also be found on the website). If you desire, you can nominate and enroll puppies on the website using PayPal – with an “online convenience fee” charged in addition to the regular fees. We will continue to accept nominations and enrollments from those who prefer an envelope and a stamp. If you forget to enroll that special puppy, by board rules you are allowed to enter from the 7 month birthday until May 1 for a fee of $50. The third step is to enter the puppy in the Futurity at the June show -- on the entry form just indicate the Futurity class on the entry. The puppy must be entered in Regular classes as well. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU USE THE PROPER FORM to enter your puppies in the Futurity to ensure that all the proper information is given -- entries missing information will not be eligible. Nominations and enrollments will not be accepted on the telephone, fax, or by email (submissions with the proper online forms will, of course, be accepted) -- however, questions about the Futurity are welcome by telephone, email or "snail mail." Also, as Futurity Chair it is my pleasure to speak with prospective puppy owners and work to link them with an appropriate breeder in their area. I use the Futurity information to help me as well as contact with breeders in our club.
